PM Modi calls upon people of Meghalaya to choose development over family rule

Feb 24 (AIR News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon the people of Meghalaya to choose development over family rule.

Addressing an election rally in the election-bound Meghalaya, he said he will repay the love and affection that he is receiving from the people of Meghalaya by speeding up development in the state.  He said the interests of Meghalaya will be given priority.

Stating that Meghalaya wants a ‘people first’ government instead of a ‘family first govt’, Mr Modi said BJP is growing in the northeast.

Alleging that a few people made Meghalaya a family government, and gave priority to protect their personal interests, he said the northeast is becoming a strong force due to the initiatives taken by the Central government.

Earlier, Mr Modi held a road show while the crowd spilled out on both sides of the road to greet the Prime Minister as he waved to the crowd. He will also address a rally at Tura later on Friday.

The Prime Minister assured the people of Meghalaya of speedy development in the state. He said BJP governments both at the State and Centre means speedy development.

Addressing an election meeting held at Tura in East Garo Hills district on Friday afternoon, he said BJP government stands for speedy development, end of blockade and violence, and security for women in Meghalaya.

He further said BJP is committed for providing fruits of welfare schemes to all without any discrimination, while providing employment opportunities to youth.

The Prime Minister explained how his government increased fund allocation to tribal welfare, including for Eklavya residential schools and road development for the northeast region, under which Meghalaya benefitted a lot. He also said the government has been making continuous efforts to highlight Meghalaya's culture and language.

Stating that the contribution of Meghalaya is immense in the national growth story, Modi said the northeast region became a growth engine for the country due to the measures taken by the central government.

Digging at the opposition parties, he said a few parties have tried to obstruct his rally at Tura. He further said people made it clear that he does not require a ground for his meeting, as he is right in the hearts of the people.
