Agartala, June 21 (PIB): A media workshop on three New Criminal Laws, going to be effective from 1st July in the country was held at the State Judicial Academy at Narsingarh today.
The workshop (Vartalap) organised by PIB Agartala, in association with the State Legal Services Authority, Tripura Judicial Academy, National Law University and Government Law College.
Addressing the participants in the workshop, Advocate General Siddhartha Shankar Dey, who graced the program as chief guest said that the three new criminal laws Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakhsya Adhiniyam will come into force on July 1. He said that these three new laws are not laws made by exploiters and for the ruled people, rather these have been made by our country's own people and for themselves.
He also said that the country is going to have its own law after 75 years of her independence, particularly in the Amrit Kaal. Referring to the Nirbhaya case in Delhi, he said that the case was an eye opener to our legal system, to understand the necessity of making our own laws to build up a proper justice delivery system. He expressed hope that these laws would provide justice to every citizen of the country. He said the provisions under these new laws would benefit the citizens of the country a lot.
Anurag, Director General of Police (intelligence), the other chief guest in the workshop, discussed in detail the salient features of the three new criminal laws. He said that once the three new criminal laws comes into effects from July 1, the public as a whole will be ensured swift justice and can reap the advantage of zero FIRs. He said that the facility of filing Zero FIR is being provided under the ambit of the new laws, which would facilitate citizens to file an FIR, in necessity, from anywhere else and that can be filed either electronically like through e-mail.
Under the new law, timeline has been fixed in every phase of justice delivery system in between the time the case is taken up and the pronouncement of the verdict in the court. Shri Anurag said that the process of new cases will be completed sooner than the existing pattern. Shri Anurag also deliberated cardinal aspects of the three criminal laws, as to how they would help in policing, sentencing the accused, justice to the innocent and also evinced the loopholes in the earlier laws.
Speaking on the occasion, Member Secretary of the State Legal Services Authority Smt Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury said several good changes have been made in the new three laws. Vice-Chancellor of National Law University Yogesh Pratap Singh said that the law of the British era is now changing.
Dr. Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar and the Professor of the National Law University, Tripura campus discussed various aspects of benefits of the new three laws. At the end of the workshop, an interactive session was held wherein the speakers answered queries from the media persons and students of Law participated in the workshop. Amongst others, media persons from different media organisations, Deputy Director of Tripura Judicial Academy Surabhi Sagar and faculties from the National Law University and State Government Law College participated in the workshop.
