‘Tripura’s 130 Bengali Medium Schools converted in English Mediums in just three years’

Agartala, July 22: As many as 130 Bengali Medium Schools were converted into English Mediums in Tripura on demand in just three years.
This was stated by Education minister Ratanlal Nath during a programme in Agartala on Thursday.
He said this after inaugurating a three-day virtual orientation programme at Shiksha Bhavan organized by the Directorate of Elementary Education, as a part of Continuous Professional Development of Head Masters/ Teachers-in-charge and other teachers of recently switched over English Medium Schools.
The Education Minister speaking in the inaugural session said that there were only 127 English Medium Schools in the state till 2018 since Independence.
“In the past three years, the number of English Mediums in Tripura has increased to 257. Total 130 Bengali Mediums have been converted into English Mediums in only three years including 59 this year alone,” Nath told the media.
Expressing hope, the Education minister said that such an orientation programme would definitely help achieve the goal of quality education and capacity building among the teachers, for the interest of the students.
The officials of the Education department including Director of Elementary Education Chandni Chandran and others were present in the inaugural session of the orientation programme.
