Agartala, May 21: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has announced a fresh recruitment drive to strengthen the state police force, with plans underway to fill 1,134 posts in the coming months.
The Chief Minister made the announcement on Thursday while addressing the Passing Out Parade of the 91st and 92nd batches of recruit constables at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy in Narsingarh.
According to the Chief Minister, the recruitment process will soon begin for 218 Sub-Inspector (SI) posts and 916 Constable positions as part of the government's continued effort to modernise and expand policing infrastructure in the state.
Highlighting the government's vision for law enforcement, Saha said Tripura is focused on developing a professional, disciplined and citizen-centric police force capable of addressing evolving security challenges with dedication and accountability.
The event also marked the induction of 476 newly trained constables into the Tripura Police after nearly 11 months of intensive training. Among them, 318 are women and 158 are men, reflecting the increasing role of women in policing. Another batch of 475 recruits completed training at the R.K. Nagar TSR training centre.
The Chief Minister praised the performance of the recruits during the parade and noted that the growing participation of women in the force mirrors the broader push for women empowerment.
Senior police officials, including Director General of Police Anurag and Principal of KTD Singh Police Training Academy Jayanta Chakraborty, attended the ceremony.
On the sidelines of the programme, Tripura Police also launched a new safety feature integrated into the 112 India emergency application. Named "Track Me," the tool enables real-time location sharing with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) control room, aimed particularly at assisting women, senior citizens and individuals travelling alone.
Officials said the feature allows users to alert the control room instantly during emergencies, helping emergency teams respond without delay. Trial runs of the system have already been carried out successfully by the ERSS team in Tripura, making the state the first in the country to operationalise this option.
Addressing reporters later, the Chief Minister also spoke about border security issues, stating that land acquisition has not posed any obstacle to fencing work along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. He stressed the need for quicker modernisation and reinforcement of vulnerable stretches to ensure stronger border protection.
Saha added that a central assessment team is expected to visit the state to review the condition of border infrastructure, noting that erosion, difficult terrain, water bodies and incidents of vandalism have damaged fencing in several locations.
