3 cops suspended in Tripura for involvement in looting Burmese cigarettes

In a shocking incident, three policemen from North Tripura district have been suspended for their alleged involvement in hijacking a consignment of Burmese cigarettes worth Rs. 40 lakh.
The incident occurred on January 28 night in Chamtila area under the jurisdiction of Panisagar police station.
According to reports, a truck carrying the consignment of Burmese cigarettes was intercepted and looted by six individuals, including the three suspended policemen - Shibu Dutta, Pranab Kumar Singh, and Dheeraj Nath.
The driver of the vehicle was brutally assaulted, and eyewitnesses claimed that three to four rounds were fired during the heist. Fortunately, the driver survived the attack and is currently undergoing treatment outside the state.
Investigations revealed that the stolen cigarettes were smuggled into Bangladesh via Sabroom border, using a white Scorpio with an Assam-registered number plate.
The suspended policemen were allegedly involved in several similar incidents in Chamtila, Panisagar, and Haflong, often impersonating as fake sales tax officers.
The suspension order was issued by Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai on Monday, but local residents are demanding the immediate arrest of all individuals involved in the heist.
