Agartala, July 30: In a remarkable display of medical expertise, a 21-year-old youth's life was saved by a surgeon in Tripura's Gomati district hospital on Tuesday.
The youth- Kartik Das from Rajnagar, South Tripura arrived at the hospital in a state of severe distress, suffering from a chicken bone lodged in his right pyriform sinus, a part of the throat on Monday.
The obstruction caused a severe choking sensation, prompting immediate medical intervention.
Dr. Pradip Mallik, an experienced ENT surgeon at the hospital, described the critical situation.
He said, the bone was approximately 4 inches in size and in a precarious position. Given the patient’s intense choking, transferring him to the State Hospital was a consideration. However, we successfully removed the bone using video laryngoscopy. Kartik is now stable and recovering well, Dr. Mallik reported.
The swift and decisive action of the medical team received applause from the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Kajal Kumar Das.
“We are relieved that Kartik’s life was saved. It is crucial for patients in similar situations to be brought directly to the hospital. We commend Kartik’s family for their prompt response,” said Das.
Gomati District Hospital has been gaining recognition for its surgical capabilities in recent years. The facility has undertaken several critical operations, contributing to its growing reputation.
Dr. Biswajit Paul, the hospital’s lead surgeon, was recently honored as the best surgeon of the year at the State Level function on Doctor’s Day.
The successful intervention in Kartik Das’s case reflects the hospital’s dedication and capability in handling critical medical emergencies, providing a beacon of hope for the community it serves.
