4 Tripura Police officers arrested after Eskuf seizure tampering

Agartala, May 25: Four officers of Tripura Police were arrested after CCTV footage exposed tempering of seized Eskuf consignment.
The arrests were made following Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha's zero tolerance against narcotics network.
On the direction of DGP Tripura, Anurag, the four officers were arrested and suspended, according to official sources.
The accused officers are- Inspector Ajit Debbarma, SI Rajendra Reang, WSI Sampa Das (all from Teliamura PS) and ASI Sachindra Debbarma (SB Organisation, Khowai).
During mobile patrol on 20 May 2026, Teliamura police station staff intercepted a white Eeco and recovered a consignment of codeine-based Eskuf cough syrup. Seizure proceedings were recorded at the station.
Subsequent review of Teliamura police station CCTV footage revealed that portions of the recovered consignment were removed from the GD Room prior to formal seizure and recordation.
"Preliminary examination of footage shows that approximately 245 bottles (100 ml each) of Eskuf cough syrup — an amount constituting commercial quantity under the NDPS Act — were dishonestly removed and concealed by the accused personnel," police said.
The seizure officer did not account for the full consignment during the formal seizure process.
After the incident, a criminal case has been registered and an impartial investigation is underway.
Departmentally they have been suspended. All the four personnel have been areested and were forwarded to the Court on Monday. They were remanded to police custody for five days.
