Agartala, May 18: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four labourers and left two others injured in Tripura’s Dhalai district after a dumper carrying construction materials lost control and plunged into a gorge near a remote border road project area on Sunday.
The fatal mishap took place near Sher Camp under Waduk Para in Chawmanu subdivision, where a group of workers was travelling to an ongoing road construction site on Sunday morning. According to local sources, the dumper loaded with stone chips overturned on a hilly stretch before tumbling down the roadside gorge.
Panic gripped the area soon after the accident as nearby residents and fellow workers rushed to rescue those trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Police and emergency teams later reached the spot and launched rescue operations.
The deceased workers were identified as Mujida Tripura (48), Bondingjoy Tripura, Bathakjoy Tripura (40), and Naroujoy Tripura (27). Most of the victims belonged to nearby villages under the Chawmanu region and were engaged in border infrastructure development work.
Two injured workers — Jugaljoy Tripura (32) and Kosmoni Tripura (13) — sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a nearby health facility for treatment.
Officials said all six victims were immediately taken to the hospital after the rescue operation.
