In a recent placement drive carried out by Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), under the Rural Development Department, 45 skilled youths were offered jobs in reputed private firms.
According to official sources, a total of 68 candidates from across Tripura attended the placement drive, out of which 45 were selected and offered jobs in companies such as V Mart Retail Ltd, Amazon, Flipkart, Wistron, Creamstone, Tata Zudio, and Tata Westside. The roles offered include warehouse supervision, retail associate, food and beverage services.
The initiative was an effort of TRLM to uplift rural communities through employment-oriented skill development. The drive was held at Ashray Aawas in Agartala’s Kunjaban on July 25 last.
Chief Executive Officer of TRLM Tarit Kanti Chakma, along with the Chief Operating Officer (Skills), TRLM were present in the inaugural session.
Speaking at the event, the CEO encouraged the participating youth to make the most of the opportunity. “This is a starting platform. With dedication and experience, you can climb up to supervisory and managerial roles,” he said.
The TRLM continues to play a pivotal role in transforming rural lives and strengthening the community development by bridging the gap between training and employment.
The initiative was part of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at equipping rural youth—particularly those from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and other vulnerable groups—with industry-relevant skills and placement opportunities.
The programme targets youth aged between 18 to 35 years and is implemented in the state through Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) empanelled by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India.
Under the DDU-GKY scheme, candidates undergo residential training for durations of three, six, or nine months in NSQF-aligned courses such as Sewing Machine Operator, IT & ITeS, General Duty Assistant (GDA), Logistics & Warehouse, and Food & Beverage Services, etc. So far, 14,300 rural youths in Tripura have been trained, and 9,311 have secured employment in leading companies across India and Tripura.
TRLM has been conducting such placement drives regularly, ensuring that skill training is meaningfully connected to job opportunities. The initiative is a testament to the Mission's commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods for rural youth in Tripura.
