46,143 voters enrolled for Dharmanagar by-poll scheduled on April 9: DM

Dharmanagar, Mar 17: A total of 46,143 voters are enrolled for the upcoming by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar assembly constituency, District Magistrate and District Election Officer Chandni Chandran announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Of the total electorate, 23,763 are women and 22,380 are men. The district administration has set up 55 polling stations across the constituency, including 32 in urban areas and 23 in rural regions. A total of 12 sector civil officers have been appointed, with four kept in reserve.

The DEO also informed the media that the administration is ready to conduct the polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The District Election Officer informed that 258 voters are above 85 years of age. In a special initiative, 11 polling stations will be managed entirely by women polling personnel. Authorities also plan to implement a “green protocol” during the election, replacing flex materials with cloth to promote environmental sustainability.

A district complaint cell has been activated, and voters can lodge grievances through the toll-free number 1950.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on April 9. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, while scrutiny will take place on March 24. Candidates can withdraw nominations until March 26. The counting of votes will be held on May 4.

Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai stated that security arrangements are being strengthened, with personnel already arriving in the district.

Central Armed Police Forces have also been deployed, and area domination exercises will begin shortly to ensure a peaceful polling process. Eight police sector officers have been appointed, and security personnel have been deployed at six naka points, he added.

The press conference was also attended by SDM and Returning Officer Debjani Chowdhury, Additional District Magistrates- Bijoy Sinha and L Darlong, among others.

Meanwhile, on Mar 13, in reference to the Bye-Election for the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency, a meeting was conducted by the District Magistrate & Collector, North Tripura with representatives of political parties at the Conference Hall of the Office of the DM & Collector, North Tripura to deliberate on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), finalize the rate chart, constitute standing committees, and other pertinent issues.

Earlier a review meeting on poll preparedness for the by-elections was conducted by the ECI team, led by Principal Secretary N T Bhutia and Secretary Santosh Kumar Dubey.

In the meantime, a state-level meeting comprising recognized political parties was convened today under the chairmanship of Brijesh Pandey, Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura, and Usa Jen Mog, the Additional CEO, Tripura.

The primary agenda cfocused on poll preparedness for the upcoming by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency, alongside the forthcoming Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll. Representatives from the BJP, CPI(M), INC, IPFT, and TMP were in attendance.
