5 arrested for stealing files from Tripura PHQ sent to 14-day judicial custody

Agartala, Aug 17: Five persons arrested in connection with stealing several bundles of files from Tripura Police headquarters were remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Wednesday.

Tripura Police recovered all 156 stolen files from two places in the capital city-Agartala and picked up the five persons within 48 hours of the daring theft incident based on CCTV footage.

Among them, Bijay Rishi Das and Tapas Acharjee had stolen the files at the evening on Independence Day while the three others- Amit Dey, Subrata Sutradhar and Suman Dey were recipients of the stolen files, police confirmed.

Meanwhile, the theft in a protected area like police headquarters raised many an eyebrow. However, police said that necessary action was being taken against the security lapses.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tripura Police in a press release mentioned that the files which were stolen were kept in an isolated cabin for weeding, destruction and some of the files were dormant.
