Agartala, Aug 08: A healthy ambience has emerged for sports activities in the state. The state government is implementing various plans to improve the sports infrastructure. And this positive ambience has developed due to such initiatives. Now the state is producing national and international level players. These remarks were made by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today after inaugurating the 54th Tripura State Badminton Championship 2026 at the NSRCC, Agartala.
Speaking on this occasion the Chief Minister said that the Tripura Badminton Association is playing animportant role in the development of badminton, in finding new talents and honing their talent. This kind of competition not only gives an opportunity to the players to show their talent but also encourages the sports lovers.
The Chief Minister said, sports is a prime medium for mental and physical well-being of human beings. Participating in sports on a regular basis can keep us healthy, disciplined, confident and energetic. Sports also teach us how to maintain discipline, perseverance, collective spirit and the mental strength to tackle challenges.
The Chief Minister said, the players of the state have already been leaving their footprints of talent at the national and international stage. Renowned sports personalities like Olympian Deepa Karmakar are inspirations to the young generation. Recently Asmita Dey, talented player from the state won gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. By achieving this feat in judo for the first time for the country, she has not only made Tripura proud, but the country as well. Her achievement proves that appropriate training, dedication and perseverance can help in achieving success at the international stage also.
The Chief Minister further said that various initiatives have been taken for the development of sports infrastructure and training facilities in the state. Now synthetic football turf, synthetic hockey field, advanced swimming pool, synthetic athletic tracks etc. are being established in the state. Construction of two multi-purpose indoor halls, one at Kailashahar and another Udaipur, is under process.
A 200-bed sports hostel is being constructed in Badharghat sports complex. Initiative has been taken to construct 30,000 capacity audience gallery at Dasarath Deb Stadium at Badharghat. A sports hall is also likely to come up at NSRCC. He expressed hope that from this badminton championship more talented players will come out to compete at the national and international stage in the future and make the state proud.
Welcome address was delivered by the President of Tripura Badminton Association Ratan Saha. He informed that this championship will continue from August 8 to 10 for the under-19, senior and veteran category participants. Ratna Datta, Chairperson of AMC central zone also spoke on the occasion. Secretary of the Tripura Sports Council Sukanta Ghosh was also present at the inaugural programme.
