
Agartala, Sept 24: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that surrender of 584 insurgents from NLFT and ATTF unfolded a new era towards peace and development in the state.
The Chief Minister welcomed the returnees during an event organized at 7th-Bn TSR headquarters in Jampuijala. Total weapons handed over included – 9 AK series rifles, 1 revolver, 1 rifle, 89 country guns, 8 factory made guns, 7 land mines and 13 pistols.
The surrender was result of a peace accord signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, the NLFT, and the ATTF in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in New Delhi on September 4 last.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said, with the return of the 584 insurgents to mainstream, insurgency came to an end in Tripura.
The returnees included Biswa Mohan Debbarma, President of NLFT (BM), Parimal Debbarma, President NLFT (PD), Prasenjit Debbarma, President, NLFT (ORI) and Alindra Debbarma, President, ATTF. Some of them have laid down their arms before the Chief Minister.
After the event, the Chief Minister wrote on X, "Major breakthrough in NE peace process! Hon’ble PM @narendramodi Ji & HM @AmitShah Ji’s efforts yield results as 584 NLFT & ATTF cadres surrender & reintegrate. Total 12 peace agreements signed with NE groups, including 3 in Tripura. A new era of peace & development unfolds!"
Tripura DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Intelligence) Anurag, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Home Secretary PK Chakraborty, Sepahijala District Magistrate Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, and others attended the event.
