
Agartala, May 14: The Tripura government has significantly expanded its education workforce over the past several years, appointing more than 7,100 teachers across various categories since 2018, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday.
The announcement was made during the appointment letter distribution programme for 865 newly recruited Post Graduate Teachers held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stated that the government has been consistently working to improve the quality of education by strengthening staffing in both secondary and elementary education sectors.
According to official figures shared by the Chief Minister, the Secondary Education department has recruited 1,471 Post Graduate Teachers, 444 Graduate Teachers, 88 Special Educators, 115 School Librarians, and 106 Physical Education Teachers since 2018.
In the Elementary Education sector, the government has appointed 3,776 Graduate Teachers along with 1,104 Under Graduate Teachers during the same period.
Highlighting additional recruitment initiatives, Dr. Saha said appointments have also been made under the die-in-harness scheme and through recruitment boards including the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) and the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT).
He informed that 236 candidates were appointed to Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and Group-D positions through TRBT. Meanwhile, JRBT facilitated recruitment for 117 LDC posts and 450 Multi-Tasking Staff positions under Secondary Education, along with another 47 LDC and 122 Multi-Tasking Staff appointments. Altogether, 736 individuals were recruited through JRBT.
The Chief Minister further stated that the state government has provided 20,960 jobs, including appointments under the die-in-harness category, up to May 8 this year. Additionally, 24,078 contractual and outsourced employment opportunities have been generated since the 2018–19 financial year.
“These numbers reflect the government’s continued commitment towards employment generation and public welfare despite financial limitations,” Dr. Saha said.
Emphasising transparency in recruitment, he said the government has prioritised merit-based appointments to fulfil the aspirations of the youth. He described the recruitment of 865 Post Graduate Teachers as a significant step towards strengthening the education system in the state.
The Chief Minister also urged the newly appointed teachers to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity, dedication, and professionalism to ensure quality education for students. He stressed that teachers should also actively monitor and guide students in cases involving behavioural changes.
Congratulating the newly recruited teachers, Dr. Saha wished them success in their professional journey.
The programme was attended by School Education Secretary Milind Ramteke, Director of Secondary and Elementary Education Rajib Dutta, SCERT Director L. Darlong, senior officials, and representatives of TRBT.
