Agartala Press Club felicitates journalists’ children for academic success

It was a day of joy, pride, and quiet celebration at the Agartala Press Club on Monday, as the children of working journalists and photojournalists were honoured for their academic achievements in the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations.

In its first-ever initiative of this kind, the Agartala Press Club came alive with applause and emotion as 16 young achievers were felicitated in the presence of their proud parents — many of whom have long served in the field of journalism.

The ceremony was graced by veteran journalists Subal Kumar Dey, Shekhar Dutta, and Jayanta Bhattacharya, alongside Press Club President Pranab Sarkar and vice-president Chitra Roy. Leading the proceedings was Club Secretary Ramakanta Dey, joined by fellow assistant secretaries- Kamal Choudhury and Abhishek Dey, and other executive members.

In his welcome speech, the Secretary spoke about the inspiration behind the event — to acknowledge the perseverance of students and the silent sacrifices of their families.

Each student was presented with a memento, a sapling symbolizing growth, and a cash reward — simple tokens of recognition with deep meaning. The dignitaries encouraged the students to follow their dreams with courage, discipline, and a sense of social responsibility.

In a touching appeal, the speakers urged the younger generation to stay rooted in family values and to care for their parents with love and dignity in later years — so that no parent ever feels abandoned.

The celebration concluded with a lunch shared by students, their families, and Press Club members — a fitting end to a day filled with smiles, stories, and shared hope.

With this inaugural event, the Agartala Press Club has not only honoured academic excellence but also planted the seeds of a new tradition — one that celebrates both achievement and gratitude. The Club’s executive committee confirmed that this meaningful initiative will continue in the years to come.
