AGMC to get more 100 MBBS, 83 PG seats, centre approves Rs. 273.46 cr

Agartala, May 15: In a significant development for Tripura’s healthcare and medical education sector, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved Rs. 273.46 crore for the expansion and infrastructure development of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the development on social media, stating that the sanctioned amount will help enhance the college’s capacity by adding 100 new MBBS seats and 83 Post Graduate seats across 19 speciality and super-speciality departments from the 2026–27 academic session.
According to the Chief Minister, the latest approval marks a historic rise in medical education opportunities in the state. With the newly sanctioned seats, Tripura will have a total of 550 MBBS seats and 196 postgraduate seats, reflecting a substantial increase over the past four years.
Dr. Saha emphasized that the state government remains focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and creating better opportunities for aspiring medical students within Tripura.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for extending support towards the modernization and expansion of AGMC, calling the initiative a major milestone for the state’s medical education & healthcare.
