Allegation of corruption in TMC: Probe underway, says CM

Agartala, Mar 02: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday said that a probe into allegations against Tripura Medical College (TMC) was underway.

Speaking to the media on the sideline of an event in Agartala, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, said as soon as he received information on the TMC issue, he passed necessary instructions for taking legal action.

"We shall not be able to accept it in any situation. The matter is now under investigation. Such practice has to be stopped, if the allegations are true," he said.

Meanwhile, the Congress party and Left bodies demanded probe into the allegations of corruption in passing MBBS courses from the Tripura Medical College (TMC).

Media reports hinted at involvement of a few officials and faculty members in the alleged financial malpractice.

The Chief Minister also informed that the BJP and the state government will organize two separate state-level events to mark the completion of two years of the present government, with central BJP leaders likely to attend.

Dr. Saha said that on March 2, in 2023, the election results were declared, and the BJP secured a spectacular win.

"That day was a nostalgic moment. Many people had said many things, claiming that the BJP would not return to power and would not secure victory. In 2023, CPIM and Congress joined hands, but the people did not accept it, and we emerged victorious," he said.

He also, thanked the people for keeping faith in BJP.

"We are representatives of the people, and we want to thank them. Though we formed the cabinet on March 8, keeping this in mind, a state-level program will be held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan from the government’s side. Additionally, from the party’s side, another program will be held, where thousands of Karyakartas will join the celebration. We are in touch with the central leadership and awaiting confirmation," he said.
