Assembly Polls: Meghalaya CEO holds high-level meeting
Feb 08 (AIR News): Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya FR Kharkongor on 8th Feb 2023 held a high-level meeting with senior officers of all the enforcement agencies involved in the poll process of the State.
The meeting was held in the wake of the incident of violence in the PhulBari area in which around 10 people got injured yesterday night. Two FIRs have been filed in this case.
Talking to AIR news Chief Electoral Officer of state FR Kharkongor said that all security arrangements are in place to stop such kinds of incidents Meanwhile, the scrutiny of the nomination papers of the 379 candidates was done today for the forthcoming Assembly polls in Meghalaya to be held on the 27th of February.
While 342 are male candidates who filed their nominations for the election to the 60-member Assembly in the State, only 37 are women. Interestingly, for 36 seats in Khasi Jaintia Hills, 209 male candidates and 28 female candidates filed their nominations. For the 24 seats in the Garo Hills region, 133 male candidates and only 9 females have filed their nominations.
The maximum number of candidates filed nominations in East Khasi Hills, followed by West Garo Hills. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is the 10th of February.
