Birsa Munda's statue unveiled in Tripura, 4 new schemes for Janajati welfare announced

Agartala, Nov 15: Tripura government has installed a statue of great tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda as a token of respect to his contributions.

The statue was unveiled at Banabithi Park in Khowai district as part of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas on Tuesday.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways- Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury on others were present in the programme. 

The artist- Krishna Debnath, who made the statue, was felicitated in the programme. Besides, some veteran citizens were also honoured in the programme. The programme received huge response from the Janajati people. 

As part of his visit to Khowai district, the Chief Minister inaugurated a women police station in presence of Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan and other police officials. He also inaugurated a tertiary waste management plant at Barbill area of Singicherra.

Earlier the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways along with the Chief Minister joined the state-level programme on Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas at Dashamighat ground in Ambassa of Dhalai district on Tuesday.

A new scheme for Janajati development was announced in the programme. The scheme included Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), to be funded by World Bank, Pun Baniya- credit linked based income generating goatery scheme, Wak Baniya- credit linked based income generating piggery scheme and supplementary Education for Elementary Classes (SEEC) to support the basic education.
 
Janajati Welfare minister Rampada Jamatia, Urban Development minister Manoj Kanti Deb, MP Rebati Tripura, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, chairman of Indian Tourism Development Corporation and BJP’s NE coordinator- Dr. Sambit Patra, MLA Sabmhulal Chakma, Secretary of Tribal Welfare department- L.T. Darlong, District Magistrate, Dhalai- Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal and Superintendent of Police, Dhalai- Ramesh Yadav were present.
 
Padmashree awardees Thanga Darlong, Satyaram Reang were honoured in the programme. Besides, families of late Benichandra Jamatia and several others from Janajati communities were also given honour.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister was seen in a different mode on Tuesday as he joined the traditional Hojagiri dance during the programme.
