Agartala, May 28: In a significant organizational reshuffle ahead of upcoming electoral battles, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Matabari MLA Abhishek Debroy as new president of Tripura unit.
The decision was finalized during consultations held in New Delhi on Thursday, with the party leadership placing its confidence in Debroy to steer the organization in the state.
He replaced MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who had been leading the party’s Tripura unit since 2022. Debroy, regarded as one of the younger faces in the party leadership, has built a reputation for maintaining close engagement with grassroots workers and strengthening organizational activities at the local level.
His elevation is being viewed as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to energize the party structure and prepare for future political contests.
Soon after the announcement, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and senior BJP leaders extended their greetings to the newly-appointed state chief.
In a social media message, the Chief Minister congratulated Debroy and expressed confidence in his leadership.
“Heartiest congratulations to Shri Abhishek Debroy Ji on being appointed as the President of BJP Tripura Pradesh. Confident that under his dynamic leadership and organizational vision, the party will grow stronger and continue working dedicatedly for the welfare of Tripura's people. Wishing him a successful tenure ahead,” Saha wrote.
The appointment comes at a crucial time for the ruling party as it gears up for a series of electoral exercises, including village committee and local body polls, while also laying the groundwork for the 2028 Assembly elections.
The leadership change is expected to play a key role in sharpening the BJP’s organizational outreach across the state.
