BJP leader attacked in poll-bound Tripura, two arrested

Agartala, Jan 24: A BJP leader and SC Morcha president of Banamalipur constituency in Tripura was attacked by a group of miscreants during morning walk on Tuesday.

The BJP Karyakarta- Suman Das, who received severe cut injuries, is now battling for life at GBP hospital.

Tripura Police so far arrested two persons in connection with the murder attempt.

According to police, based on the statement of the injured youth, an FIR was lodged against five persons. Among them, two were arrested till the last information came in while search was on to nab the other culprits.

Tripura Police in its official Twitter handle first said, prima facie it was a case of business rivalry.

"One Suman Das was attacked this morning by a sharp cutting weapon in the Aralia Area, Agartala. He could identify and share name of two attackers during treatment. Both of them have been arrested. Prima facie it is a case of business rivalry. Patrolling has been intensified," the tweet said.

In a separate tweet, Tripura Police mentioned, in connection with today's attack on Suman Das, complaint from relatives also indicate political rivalry angle.

Police said, notices were served to three FIR named persons and two were arrested.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, MP Rajya Sabha Biplab Kumar Deb and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee among others visited the injured Karyakarta in the hospital.

The Chief Minister, who is a maxillofacial surgeon by profession, himself checked severity of the injuries. He also interacted with the medical officer on duty.

Later speaking to the media, Dr. Saha held Congress-backed goons responsible for the murder attempt.

He said, the people of Tripura witnessed the Congress and Communists' politics of violence and murders in the past; they have now joined hands to defeat BJP.

The Chief Minister also cautioned that such attempts would not be tolerated anymore; BJP would deal with it politically.

The incident triggered huge sensation in the whole city.
