Agartala, Aug 29: BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday said Tripura now progressing under the BJP-led government to fulfill public aspirations with a special focus on Janajati development.
Addressing a press conference at Tripura BJP’s headquarters in Agartala, the party chief said, nothing was done for women empowerment; youths were exploited and tribals were ignored during the left regime.
The BJP chief, who concluded his two-day Tripura tour on Monday, said that the party believes in ‘Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas, Sab ka Viswas and Sab Ka Prayas’ and it (BJP) is working to bring all the sections of society to mainstream for development within the constitutional framework.
The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working for the welfare of the tribal communities with priorities; a tribal woman is now holding the highest constitutional post of the country.
He said, the central government with the assistance from the World Bank is funding Rs 1300 crore for Janajati welfare in Tripura with a focus on livelihood opportunities and connectivity.
Nadda also, commented that BJP is the other name of tribal development—one govt (Left) looted the tribals and another (BJP) government is working day and night for an all-round development of them.
He mentioned that the Congress-TUJS government had promoted terrorism and infiltration in the state. He said, insurgency was at peak while drugs smuggling and corruption were major issues during that period.
Replying to a query, he expressed confidence that the party would retain power in Tripura in 2023 polls with a two-third majority.
“BJP will come to power with two-third majority in a full-fledged manner and work for the people properly,” he said in the press conference at the BJP state headquarters.
Highlighting the major achievements of the BJP-led government in Tripura over the past four years, Nadda said, the per capita income in the state has increased by 30 per cent in Tripura, the farmers income has increased from Rs 6500 per month to Rs 11,000 per month, the number of SHGs has increased seven times while the State Budget has increased from Rs. 12,600 crore to Rs 27,000 crore. According to Nadda, all these show the economic growth of Tripura
He also stated, earlier there was only one national highway in the state. Now, six national highways (542 km) are under construction.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and party’s state observer Vinod Sonkar were present in the press conference.
The BJP national president, who arrived in Tripura along with his wife Mallika Nadda on Sunday, earlier held separate organizational meetings with the party functionaries at various levels. According to sources, he drew a strategy for the 2023 assembly polls.
Before leaving the state for Guwahati on Monday afternoon, the BJP chief also visited Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur and addressed a Janajati rally at TTAADC headquarters- Khumulwg.
Meanwhile, more than 34 BJP supporters – who were going to attend JP Nadda’s Khumulwng rally different places - were injured after miscreants, allegedly supporters of Tipra Motha, resorted to hooliganism. Besides, several vehicles were vandalized.
The Tipra Motha supporters reportedly armed with sticks and sharp weapons unleashed violence at Jagaibari in Pramodnagar under Bishramganj and at Namanjoypara under Champahaor police station in Teliamura.
A day before the rally, Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma through a live video on social media had appealed the party workers not to indulge in any violence but his appeal fell flat.
