BJP secures landslide victory in Tripura Panchayat polls

Agartala, Aug 13: Maintaining its winning spree, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured an impressive victory in the three-tier Panchayat polls.

The elections were held on August 8 last and the counting was held on August 12. In some places the counting continued on Tuesday and then the final report was released.

The CPM-Congress managed to secure a few seats of Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samities and Gram Panchayats but their alliance faced a major defeat in the overall results. 

BJP has won majority of the seats unopposed as the opposition failed to field candidates. The elections were held for the remaining seats, where the BJP secured a landslide victory.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other BJP leaders congratulated the party’s winning candidates and conveyed gratitude to the people for their unwavering support to Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Chief Minister along with BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, MP Lok Sabha Biplab Kumar Deb and several other leaders exchanged courtesy at the state party office after the massive win in the Panchayat polls. 

The elections and the counting were by and large peaceful except for some sporadic incidents. There were elaborate security arrangements in all the polling and counting stations.
