Agartala, Nov 28: Bharatiya Janata Party has secured a landslide victory in Tripura civic polls, winning all 14 urban bodies which went to polls on November 25. The saffron camp made a clean sweep in 11 urban bodies, including Agartala Municipal Corporation.
Out of the 222 seats across 14 urban bodies that went to polls, BJP emerged victorious in 217.
Main opposition CPI(M) has won only three seats across three urban bodies— Kailashahar and Ambassa Municipal Councils and Panisagar Nagar Panchayat.
Trinamool Congress has won one seat in the Ambassa Municipal Council while Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore-led TIPRA Motha has won one seat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda and top brass of the party along with Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb hailed the thumping victory.
51 out of 51, a striking victory for BJP in AMC:
Bharatiya Janata Party has secured a thumping victory in the most-contested Agartala Municipal Corporation with all its candidates winning all 51 seats.
Trinamool Congress has failed to win even a single seat in the AMC where the party contested in full force and created strong hype. However, the TMC has come up in the second position in terms of vote sharing.
In the city, the TMC was visibly expecting a good show but as the results showed, the voters preferably ignored the hype and opted for ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas’.
In AMC, according to the State Election Commission, BJP has secured 56.67 percent votes, TMC bagged 20.22 percent vote, CPI-M got 18.14 percent vote and Congress’ vote share came down to only 1.76 percent.
