BJP secures resounding victory in Delhi, PM Modi congratulates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly polls after nearly three decades, as it crossed the majority mark, defeating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Results declared so far in the 70-member Delhi Assembly Election show the BJP has won 48 seats and while the Aam Aadmi Party has bagged 22 seats. The third contender, Congress, has been wiped out.
Prominent winners from BJP include Parvesh Sahib Singh from New Delhi, Tarvinder Singh Marwah from Jungpura, Kapil Misra from Karawal Nagar, Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, Shikha Roy from Greater Kailash, and Harish Khurana from Moti Nagar. Other BJP winners are Kailash Gahlot from Bijwasan, Karnail Singh from Shakur Basti, Neeraj Basoya from Kasturba Nagar, and Umang Bajaj from Rajinder Nagar.
Prominent successful AAP candidates include Atishi from Kalkaji, Som Dutt from Sadar Bazar, Gopal Rai in Babarpur, Virender Singh Kadian from Delhi Cantt, Kuldeep Kumar in the Kondli seat, Jarnail Singh in the Tilak Nagar seat, Imran Hussain in Ballimaran, Sahi Ram from Tughlakabad, Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat, who has won the Sultanpur Majra constituency, Anil Jha in Kirari, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad from Seelam Pur, and Punardeep Singh Sawhney in Chandni Chowk.
The notable faces who conceded defeat include senior AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bhardwaj; Durgesh Pathak and Avadh Ojha from Patparganj; Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit; and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.
In by-elections, BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan has won the Milkipur assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The counting of votes for the by-election in the Erode (East) assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu is in progress. Chandirakumar V. C. of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is leading in the seat.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked Delhi’s people for their mandate given to the party in the Delhi Assembly polls. In a social media post, the Prime Minister said that he bowed to Delhiites for this resounding and historic mandate to the party. 
Mr Modi said that it is BJP’s guarantee that the party will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for the people, and ensuring that Delhi has a prime role to play in building a Viksit Bharat.
Prime Minister Modi has also lauded the party workers’ efforts in winning the Delhi Assembly polls. 
Mr. Modi said he is proud of all party workers, who have worked very hard, leading to this outstanding result. The Prime Minister added that the BJP will work even more vigorously and serve the wonderful people of Delhi.
