BJP- Tipra Motha clash during ‘Mann Ki Baat’ prog leaves several injured

Agartala, Jan 19: Banshibari area of Charilam Assembly constituency in Tripura’s Sepahijala district witnessed unrest on Sunday as political tensions between two groups escalated during broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

The gathering, hosted at the residence of BJP leader Biren Debbarma in Booth No. 3, was disrupted by an altercation involving BJP supporters and Tipra Motha workers. According to eyewitnesses, the clash resulted in several individuals being injured and property damaged, including motorcycles and mobile devices.

The situation reportedly turned volatile when the two groups confronted each other, leading to an exchange of heated arguments that spiraled into violence. Tipra Motha supporters, allegedly under the leadership of Pandav Debbarma, were said to have used sticks and dao during the clash.

Kanuraj Debbarma, BJP Janajati Morcha district president, was among those injured. 

Police swiftly intervened, deploying a significant force led by the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer to restore order. Despite the heavy presence of law enforcement, tension continues to linger in the area.

Authorities have confirmed the detention of two individuals and are investigating the incident further. Meanwhile, BJP leaders have lodged an official complaint, urging strict action against those involved.

Local residents expressed concern over repeated instances of political unrest in the area, with some describing the incident as a continuation of past tensions that have made conducting BJP events challenging.
