Agartala, June 04: The Bharatiya Janata Party secured massive victory in both the Lok Sabha seats in Tripura on Tuesday.
While Biplab Kumar Deb received total 8,81,341 votes and defeated Ashish Kumar Saha of INDIA Bloc by a record margin of 6,11,578 votes, the BJP’s East Tripura candidate Kriti Devi Debbarman also secured a spectacular victory by defeating INDIA Bloc’s Rajendra Reang by 4,86,819 votes.
While Deb replaced Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik in West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman’s sister Kriti Devi Debbarman will replace Rebati Tripura. Bhowmik and Tripura were elected in 2019 Lok Sabha elections and represented the state in the parliament.
Both the elected candidates expressed their gratitude to the people for their unwavering support to BJP. They also thanked the Karyakartas up to the booth level for ensuring the party’s victory.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who led the party’s campaign in the state, and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee congratulated both the candidates for their spectacular victory.
Deb accompanied by the Chief Minister, party’s state unit chief and thousands of Karyakartas also joined a victory rally in Agartala amid vibrant response from the people.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister in a press conference said, the election has demonstrated the essence of democracy, with the entire country eagerly awaiting the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of India for the third time.
Addressing the press conference at the BJP Election Office, Dr. Saha said that the BJP achieved a landslide victory in both parliamentary seats in the state.
"In both seats in our state, it was a landslide victory. In the West Parliamentary Constituency, Biplab Kumar Deb contested, and in the East, Kriti Devi Debbarma contested. In both seats, it was a landslide victory. Even in the by-election, our candidate Dipak Majumder won," he said.
Dr. Saha emphasized the significance of this year's election for India.
“Though we couldn't fulfill our target, Narendra Modi is becoming Prime Minister again for the third term waiting to witness the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi as PM. The opposition also worked tirelessly, and I want to thank them as well as the ECI. The entire country has seen what democracy is and the power of democratic processes,” he said.
He also mentioned that the election results will determine the country's future direction.
