BSF in Tripura foils smuggling bid, 2 B’deshi smugglers injured

Agartala, July 18: The Border Security Force foiled a major smuggling attempt along Indo-Bangla international boundary in Tripura.

Two Bangladeshi smugglers were injured when the BSF troops on duty fired non-lethal weapon in self-defence at Boxonagar under Sepahijala district in the intervening night of July 18 and 19.

According to an official press release, “BSF troops fired non-lethal weapon in self-defence when BD smugglers didn't pay heed to warning of BSF, tried to encircle and attack the troops on duty and further attempted to smuggle the goods forcefully.”

On being fired, the Bangladeshi smugglers fled away from the scene leaving behind huge quantities of sugar.

It is reliably learnt that two Bangladeshi smugglers got pellet injuries and are undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bangladesh, the BSF press release said.

The BSF troops, according to the press release, are on high alert in the border to deal with anti-national elements and to prevent trans-border crimes.
