BSF Mahila Praharis foil major smuggling attempt in Tripura, 2 rounds fired

Agartala, Jan 12: Mahila praharis of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday successfully foiled a major attempt of smuggling at Ashabari border area under Sepahijala district
A huge quantity of sugar and other contrabands were recovered in the drive.
BSF, in a press note, said to foil the smuggling attempt taking place in the early morning, the BSF Mahila Praharis had to resort to fire two rounds from lethal weapon in a compelling situation when a large group of smugglers armed with sharp edged weapons forcibly attempted to carry out smuggling of contrabands.
In another operation carried out on Saturday, the BSF troops Gaurnagar BOP under Khowai district apprehended 3 Bangladeshi nationals while they were trying to cross over to Bangladesh.
The apprehended Bangladeshi nationals are residents of Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh. During questioning by BSF, the apprehended Bangladeshis revealed the identity of Indian tout and Bangladeshi tout involved in facilitating crossing of border.
In addition, adopting Non-Lethal strategy BSF troops successfully foiled several attempts of infiltration and smuggling, rescued 10 cattle, seized 1000 kgs of sugar, 16 kg ganja, huge quantity of clothing items, medicines and other contraband worth more than Rs 50 lakhs.
BSF is maintaining a high level of alertness on the international border to prevent infiltration and trans-border crimes.
Meanwhile, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, IG BSF Tripura Frontier, visited Baligaon and Moracherra BOPs and reviewed the security scenario and operational preparedness. He also interacted with troops and commanders during Sainik Sammellan.
