Agartala, Mar 18: The Tripura Legislative Assembly on Wednesday unanimously adopted the Motion of Thanks to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu’s address after a detailed discussion involving members from both the treasury and opposition benches.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and eight MLAs participated in the debate. A total of 147 amendments moved by opposition members were rejected by voice vote, following which the motion was adopted unanimously.
Supporting the motion, the Chief Minister said the Governor’s address highlighted the state’s overall development and outlined the government’s future plans. He noted that Tripura has prepared its development roadmap in line with the national vision of achieving a developed India by 2047.
Saha emphasized that the state’s progress is not driven solely by the government or ruling party legislators, but by the collective efforts of the people. He rejected the opposition’s amendments, stating that all concerns raised had already been addressed in the Governor’s speech.
Highlighting key indicators, the Chief Minister said the state’s GSDP growth stands between 10 and 11 percent, higher than the national average of 7.4 percent. He added that Tripura has achieved full literacy status, with the literacy rate rising to 95.6 percent from 87.75 percent in 2011, making it the third-highest in the country.
On education and healthcare, he said new colleges are being established, including a women’s college at Nalchar, and plans are underway to set up a women’s university. Seats in MBBS, BDS and nursing courses have been significantly increased, while steps are being taken to expand facilities at GBP Medical College and establish a health university.
The Chief Minister also announced plans for a 100-bed eye hospital and highlighted ongoing healthcare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and state-run initiatives.
Referring to law and order, he said crime rates declined by 8.33 percent between April and November 2025 compared to the previous year. Crimes against women dropped by 11 percent, rape cases by 33 percent, and murder cases by 26 percent. He attributed the improvement to effective policing and preventive measures. Under anti-drug operations, 350 NDPS cases were registered against 515 accused.
The Chief Minister also spoke about development initiatives for tribal communities, including hostels for students, drinking water facilities, improved connectivity, Eklavya schools, and stipends.
Calling for constructive criticism from the opposition, Saha said the reality of the state’s development cannot be denied. He urged all stakeholders to work together towards building a stronger and more developed Tripura in line with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
MLAs who participated in the discussion included Sudip Roy Barman, Shambhulal Chakma, Ranjit Debbarma, Antara Sarkar Deb, Chittaranjan Debbarma, Shailendra Chandra Nath, Gopal Chandra Roy and Dipankar Sen.
