Census 2027: Tripura Governor, CM participate in self-enumeration process

Agartala, July 17: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today registered their personal details online as part of the Census 2027 exercise.

The Chief Minister accomplished the self-enumeration process digitally from his official residence at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Lane.

The Chief Minister has also urged the people of the state to participate in this process to expedite and consolidate the state’s future plans and foundation of development.

The Governor took part in the 'Census 2027' programme at Lok Bhavan through the self-enumeration process, entering his required details via the self-enumeration portal.

Following this, the Governor addressed a press conference highlighting the importance of the upcoming census.

He urged the people of Tripura to actively participate in the programme. He said an accurate census is extremely essential for the equitable distribution of government funds and formulation of effective development plans at the level of districts, municipal areas and village panchayats.

He said, population data serves as the key foundation for resource allocation and implementation of development projects.

Speaking on the importance of providing correct information, he said that inaccurate data could disrupt the planning process and the distribution of government benefits. The Governor said that although the census is normally held every 10 years, it was delayed due to COVID-19 and will now be conducted in 2027.

He stated that this census will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, data will be collected on housing conditions, family details, amenities and assets. The information gathered in this phase will be verified during the second phase through the population count. Highlighting the use of technology, Governor Nallu said that 'Census 2027' will incorporate an advanced digital system. For the first time, citizens will have the opportunity to register their own information through a special online portal.

This portal has been created with the aim of facilitating and monitoring various census-related activities. He further stated that to ensure no individual is left out of the enumeration process, every household and workplace will be brought under the count. For full cooperation in carrying out the census programme, he appealed to everyone concerned from the Chief Secretary down to Anganwadi workers, village committees, teachers, students and others.

Present at the event were Ratan Biswas, Director of Census Operations; Debananda Reang, Director of the Department of Economics and Statistics; and senior officials of the Census Operations and the Department of Economics and Statistics.
