Centre Takes Multiple Steps to Ensure Stable Fuel Supply Amid West Asia Tensions

In response to the evolving situation in West Asia, the Government of India has undertaken a series of measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply, maintain industrial activity, and safeguard Indian citizens abroad. This was highlighted during an inter-ministerial briefing held at the National Media Centre, where officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ports and Shipping, and External Affairs shared updates.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) stated that several regulatory and support measures have been implemented to keep industrial production and supply chains running smoothly. Between March 25 and April 21, a total of 467 applications for CNG and CBG stations were processed, while 41 biogas plants received approval.

To maintain fuel availability, the government has introduced temporary relaxations in LPG unloading, kerosene storage, and LNG refuelling operations. Efforts are also underway to promote the use of alternative fuels to reduce dependency on conventional energy sources.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG remains stable across the country. Citizens have been urged not to panic or engage in excessive fuel purchases. Currently, 94% of LPG deliveries are being carried out through the Delivery Authentication Code system, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

Since March 23, more than 2 million 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders have been sold. Additionally, around 510,000 PNG connections have been activated, with infrastructure ready for another 256,000 connections.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the safety of Indian nationals in West Asia is being closely monitored. Since February 28, approximately 1.191 million passengers have returned to India from the region. Meanwhile, the Indian-flagged oil tanker “Desh Garima,” carrying 31 Indian sailors, is expected to arrive in Mumbai.

The government assured that the situation remains under control, with adequate measures in place to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel and essential commodities.
