Clubs function like mini-government: Tripura CM

Agartala, Feb 04: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said that a club is like a mini-government, and club officials must work in a neutral way.
“We must select a person who can work for the club and for the society. We don’t see religion or caste in clubs. A club means a gathering of people from all religions. But this was not the case earlier. There was a time when club culture was very bad. People used to fight with each other. There were attempts to create unrest in Gandacherra between tribals and non-tribals. Within three days, I resolved the issue,” said Dr. Saha.

Dr. Saha said this during a programme at Naba Aikya Club, Bhattapukur, Agartala.

“There are some people who try to create issues. In the South District, around 69 people were killed during the previous government’s tenure. If society remains divided, miscreants emerge and create problems. However, now society is united. Nowadays, women are more active in clubs than men, which indicates a positive change. This also helps build confidence. Our government is also working for the welfare of women. We are working towards a ‘Nesha-Mukt’ (Addiction-Free) and ‘Plastic Mukt’ (Plastic-Free) Tripura.   There must be a competition among clubs on how well they maintain cleanliness in their areas. The importance of clubs in society is crucial, and club officials must work in a neutral way,” he added.
