Agartala, Apr 27: With the special focus of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the fight against drugs in Tripura is bringing in good results.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Dr. Saha already announced zero tolerance against drugs.
As directed by the Chief Minister, the Tripura Police along with other security agencies are also leaving no stone unturned to achieve the government's goal of making the state free of drugs.
With intensified vigil by police, the drugs and ganja smugglers are now facing a serious trouble in running their illegal business.
Seizures of contraband items, arrests of the drugs/ganja dealers and destruction of ganja plantation across the state are further strengthening the anti-narcotics drive.
Recently, in a special drive towards building drugs-free Tripura, various contraband items worth Rs.2.6 crore were seized by the state police.
An official release from Tripura Police confirmed that 245 persons were arrested in the special drive carried out from April 19 to 25 last.
During the anti-drugs drive, police seized 388 grams heroin, 2034 kgs dry ganja, 5404 Yaba tablets, 1724 bottles of codeine based cough syrup and nine vehicles. The total estimated market value of the seized items is Rs. 2,51,30,875.
The policemen conducted 1064 raids, searched 53,294 vehicles/ trains, registered 50 cases and organized 375 awareness programmes during the week-long special drive.
