Agartala, July 31: Tripura's Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has written a letter to Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, advocating for the conversion of the state's single-line rail tracks to double-line tracks.
In his letter, Chowdhury highlighted the importance of this upgrade, particularly the conversion of the track up to Sabroom.
The current single-line track from Lumding to Sabroom leads to significant delays for both express and local trains, hindering the potential for running additional trains or introducing new services.
Chowdhury noted that the Northeast Frontier Railways has recently started the Final Location Survey (FLS) for doubling the track from Chandranathpur (in Assam) to Agartala.
He emphasized that the Agartala-Sabroom rail line is crucial for enhancing trade and connectivity not only within the northeastern states but also with Bangladesh.
Chowdhury urged the Ministry of Railways to prioritize the double-lining of the Agartala-Sabroom railway project. He requested Minister Vaishnaw to instruct the concerned officers to complete the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the Agartala-Sabroom section simultaneously and to expedite the commencement of the double-lining work.
