Cooperative Bank plays important role in growth of rural economy: Tripura CM

Agartala, June 25: Tripura State Cooperative Bank has been playing an important role in development of cooperatives and overall growth of economy, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

Addressing the 40th Annual General Meeting of the Tripura State Cooperative Bank Limited at Agartala Town Hall, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi always emphasizes that development of any state and country is not possible without development of villages. In line with this direction, the state government is sincerely working.

"Our Home Minister Amit Shah, who is also in-charge of cooperative banks, is working in the same direction to strengthen the rural economy for the benefit of the people. Our state government is also following the direction of the Union Minister and PM Modi for the development of the people," he said.

He highlighted that the Cooperative Banks in the state, which were previously facing losses, are now significantly witnessing profits. In this context, he lauded the role of the officials working in Cooperative Banks.

"I am very happy to see that this bank is now making profits. Earlier, state cooperative banks faced losses, but for the past five years, the officials have been working tirelessly to turn the bank profitable. I frequently heard that people faced problems while obtaining loans, but here the cooperative banks are providing loans. We have addressed some of the old problems to a certain extent, and I believe the officials will continue to resolve these issues. This bank offers loans for various purposes, including home loans," he added.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the cooperative bank introduced micro ATM services in some rural areas and Electronic Common Service Centers (ECSC) would be introduced in places where banking systems are not available. To facilitate this, 14 business correspondent points would be established.
