Agartala, Sept 13: The Tripura government will constitute state- and district-level coordination committees involving the administration, police and BSF to address issues related to border security and the welfare of people living along the India-Bangladesh border, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Sunday.
Dr. Saha said the government was committed to resolving issues affecting both border security and public welfare through greater coordination among the agencies responsible for maintaining security along the international border.
“BSF personnel are a shining example of commitment to national security and humanitarian service,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the border in Tripura is currently secured with the support of the BSF, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the state police.
He said BSF personnel have made the largest contribution towards safeguarding the international border. The state government, he added, was extending necessary support to protect border fencing and BSF camps in the state.
The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp jointly organised by the BSF Tripura Frontier and the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala at the BSF headquarters in Shalbagan.
Dr. Saha said the contribution of BSF personnel goes beyond border security, with the force also actively participating in blood donation drives and various other social welfare initiatives.
“Because BSF personnel are guarding the borders, people of the country and the state are able to live in safety and peace,” he said.
The Chief Minister said blood donation had emerged as a “new awakening” in Tripura, with increasing public participation in humanitarian activities. He urged people, particularly the youth, to come forward and contribute more actively to blood donation and other social service initiatives.
He said the state government was also encouraging people to participate in eye donation and organ donation, adding that Tripura was making progress in the field of organ donation as well.
Appreciating the blood donation initiative organised by the BSF, Dr. Saha said such programmes send a positive message to society and reflect the force’s commitment to serving humanity.
BSF Tripura Frontier IG Princee Rani said a blood donation camp was not merely an event but an example of humanity in action. She said the BSF Tripura Frontier had so far donated 1,000 units of blood.
Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala president Rajib Banik also addressed the programme, while secretary Rita Byasnet Debbarma delivered the welcome address. DIG of the BSF Tripura Frontier's health department, Dr Suchandra De, also spoke at the event.
During the programme, IG Princee Rani felicitated Chief Minister Saha and presented him with a memento.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated another blood donation camp organised as part of the 74th foundation day celebrations of Unnayan Sangha at North Badharghat. He also inaugurated a voluntary blood donation camp at IGM Hospital, organized by BJYM Sadar (Rural) district unit to mark "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan".
At the Unnayan Sangha programme, Dr. Saha felicitated ASHA workers and sanitation workers serving Wards 39 and 40 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation and appreciated their contribution to society.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Ward 39 corporator Alak Dey, Ward 40 corporator Sampa Sarkar, South Zone chairman Abhijit Mallick and social worker Shyamal Dey were among those present.
Unnayan Sangha secretary Dr Partha Sarkar delivered the welcome address.
