Counting in Tripura on Mar 2: Top officials hold review meetings in 5 districts

Agartala, Feb 24: As part of the district tour programme, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kiran Gitte along with Addl. DGP Saurabh Tripathi reviewed the counting preparedness in three districts on Thursday and Friday.
They held separate review meetings in South Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala, Dhalai and Khowai districts in presence of district officials from the administration and police. The District Magistrates, Superintendent of Police and senior officers were present in the review meetings.
According to official sources, the discussions in the meetings included various important topics including guidelines of the Election Commission of India. They stressed on properly following the ECI guidelines for smooth completion of the counting process.
Besides, they asked the District Magistrates, Superintendent of Police (SPs) and Returning Officers (ROs) to hold meetings with the political parties, candidates and election agents.
The officials assured that adequate measures would be taken for maintaining law and order before and after the counting process.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission is expected to start deputing counting observers from February 28. It may be noted that the counting of votes of 60 assembly constituencies would be held in 21 counting locations across the state on March 2 next.
Tripura recorded around 90 per cent polling with 259 candidates including 30 women are in the contest.
