Covid makes reappearance in Tripura, one case reported

Coronavirus made a reappearance in Tripura with a fresh case reported in South Tripura district, a medical officer confirmed on Tuesday.

The case was reported at Kalacherra Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sabroom on Tuesday.

Dr. Shailendra Tripura, Medical Officer In-Charge of the PHC, said the patient—identified as Dipak Chotia, an ONGC employee from Assam—tested positive during a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted after he showed symptoms consistent with Covid-19.

The patient has since been isolated, and contact tracing efforts are underway.

However, the state's Health department has yet to officially confirm the case. According to Health Director Dr. Tapan Majumder, the sample had not reached the designated lab for RT-PCR confirmation as of Tuesday evening.

The PHC medical officer said, the health authorities are monitoring the situation closely and identifying individuals who may have come in contact with the patient.

In light of rising Covid cases in other parts of the country, Tripura's health authorities have already ramped up surveillance of symptomatic individuals across the state.
