Agartala, May 24: An alert has been sounded in Tripura following the prediction of IMD and subsequent advisory of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) relating to impending cyclone Remal.
The state government has also put all the concerned departments ready to meet any eventuality as the state falls on the path of the cyclone following a depression over the central Bay of Bengal.
As per the report, the depression has moved north-northeastwards, which is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm by 25th May, 2024 morning. Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by 26th May, 2024 night.
The state government in its warning mentioned, “Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, an increase in rainfall actively accompanied with heavy rainfall and gusty wind at isolated places is to occur over Tripura during 25 to 28 May, 2024.”
On May 25, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in all districts and a yellow alert has been issued.
On May 26, thunderstorm with lightning and Gusty wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and Heavy to very Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the South Tripura, Gomati, Dhalai, Sepahijala and West Tripura districts (orange alert). Besides, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur over the rest districts of Tripura (yellow alert).
On May 27, thunderstorm with lightning and Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph Gusting to 70 kmph with Heavy to very Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over South Tripura, Dhalai, Sepahijala, Gomati and West Tripura districts of Tripura with isolated Extremely heavy over Gomati District (orange alert). Besides, thunderstorm with lightning and Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph and Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over rest districts of Tripura (orange alert).
On May 28, thunderstorm with lightning and Gusty wind speed reaching 3040 kmph and Heavy to very Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over North Tripura, Unakoti and Dhalai Districts (orange alert). Besides, thunderstorm with lightning and Gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over rest districts (orange alert).
Meanwhile, the central government asked the Chief Secretary/ Principal Secretary (Revenue/DM)/ Relief Commissioner to be prepared with all essential amenities, emergency departments.
The State Government has been monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with IMD for further developments of the cyclonic storm. In view of the Cyclone Remal, all District Magistrates have been put on alert to follow the impact-based advisories of IMD and take up necessary measures.
