Drinking water crisis still an issue in various remote hamlets of Tripura

Agartala, July 02: Despite the Tripura government's on-going efforts to provide drinking water to all, several remote villages, especially in the hilly areas, continue to struggle with a water crisis.

In many hamlets, pits and streams are the only sources of drinking water. Projabahadur Molsum Para, located in the Nonachara ADC Village of Tripura's Khowai district, is one such area facing severe water issues.
Around 70 Janajati families live in Projabahadur Molsum Para, primarily depending on Jhum cultivation for their livelihood. Some villagers mentioned that due to the lack of a permanent clean water source, they are compelled to drink water from pits and rivulets, a practice that has persisted for generations.
They also complained about the irregularity of water supply. Although there are provisions for piped water, these systems are often non-functional.
According to the local residents, almost everyone, from infants to the elderly, suffers from various waterborne diseases due to the consumption of untreated water.
The villagers have called upon the state government to provide a permanent solution to their ongoing drinking water problems.
