Driver's death: Tripura CM takes swift action, SDM suspended, DM show-caused

In a swift action, the Tripura government on Wednesday suspended a Sub-Divisional Magistrate and served show-cause notice to a District Magistrate in connection with the tragic death of a lorry driver.

The truck driver- Mihirlal Debnath of Kanchanpur was stuck inside the cabin for long seven hours before going to complete silence, followed by a mishap at Chakmaghat of Khowai district, on Tuesday.

The negligence in the part of the authorities responsible for emergency response was visible and failure of the system was exposed.

On Wednesday, the Chief Minister said, in connection with the tragic death of the truck driver, the State Government has formed a three-member committee, headed by the Secretary, Revenue, (Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster Management) to investigate the incident.

The Chief Minister also said, the SDM of Teliamura has been suspended with immediate effect and show-cause notices were issued to the District Magistrate & Collector, Khowai and officer-in-charge of Teliamura Fire Station.

Besides, the state government also announced a financial assistance of Rs. 6 Lakh (Rs. 4 lakh from Disaster Management and Rs. 2 lakh from Chief Ministers’ Relief Fund).

On behalf of the government, Tinku Roy, Minister for Social Welfare & Social Education, and Santana Chakma, Minister for Industries & Commerce, will soon visit the residence of the deceased.
