ECI announces SIR in Tripura, process to begin from Sept

Agartala, May 14: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially announced the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura as part of the Phase-III revision exercise covering 16 states and 3 Union Territories.
According to the notification issued on Thursday, the revision process in Tripura will commence in September 2026, with January 10, 2026 fixed as the qualifying date for the updated electoral rolls.
As per the schedule, preparatory activities including training programmes and printing of necessary materials will be conducted from September 5 to September 14. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will then carry out door-to-door verification across the state from September 15 to October 14.
The rationalization of polling stations is scheduled for October 14, while the draft electoral roll will be published on October 21.
Following the publication of the draft rolls, the process for filing claims and objections will begin on October 21 and continue through the notice and disposal phase until December 19.
The ECI stated that the final electoral rolls for Tripura will be published on December 23 after completion of the SIR exercise.
Official data reveals that the state currently has 3,356 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 6,757 Booth Level Agents (BLAs), and a total electorate of 28,97,674 voters as recorded on May 12, 2026.
The Commission further noted that the Phase-III SIR schedule has been prepared in coordination with the ongoing Census house-listing operations to ensure effective utilization of the common field machinery.
