With rising demand both in India and abroad, handcrafted bamboo jewellery from Tripura is fast emerging as a symbol of sustainable enterprise and local craftsmanship.
Crafted by the Self Help Group (SHG) Didis of Tripura, these exquisite pieces of jewellery combine the rich natural resources of the region with the artistic skills of rural women. Produced under the Aakanksha brand, these eco-friendly ornaments are steadily gaining recognition in national markets and beyond.
Highlighting this inspiring initiative, NITI Aayog recently shared on X, “Made from locally sourced bamboo, this eco-friendly jewellery blends traditional techniques with contemporary appeal, echoing the natural rhythm and cultural spirit of Tripura.”
Showcasing photos of the beautifully crafted green jewellery, NITI Aayog noted that each ornament stands as a testament to the skill, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit of rural women who are transforming local resources into sustainable livelihoods.
This initiative falls under the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme of NITI Aayog, with special focus on women-led enterprises through the Vocal for Local campaign. By turning traditional artistry into modern opportunity, the SHG Didis of Tripura are carving a unique space in the craft and fashion industry.
Lightweight, biodegradable, and timeless, these bamboo jewellery pieces are not just fashion accessories—they represent a powerful message of sustainability, self-reliance, and women’s empowerment.
