First-phase of Census to begin in Tripura from August 1: DM West

Agartala, May 15: The first phase of the Census 2027 for the 2026–27 period will begin in Tripura on August 1 and continue till August 30, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar announced on Friday.

He said the self-enumeration phase will be conducted earlier, from July 17 to July 31, allowing citizens to submit their personal and family details online before the door-to-door survey begins.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the conference hall of Sonar Tori State Guest House following the conclusion of a three-day training camp organised for officials, supervisors, and enumerators associated with Census of India 2027.

He said, the exercise shall have no overlapping impact with the Special Intensive Review (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India.

The training programme was organised by the West Tripura district administration in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Census Operations, Tripura, and with support from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Dr. Vishal Kumar informed that officials from all nine blocks of the district, urban local bodies, Agartala Municipal Corporation, subdivision administrations, district-level statistics officials, and district administration officers participated in the training programme.

Explaining the self-enumeration process, the District Magistrate said citizens will be able to submit information about themselves and their families through a mobile application or online portal during the self-enumeration period.

He said residents can upload their information through their mobile phones even before enumerators visit their homes. After successfully submitting the details on the secure portal, a unique Self-Enumeration ID will be generated.

The official website for self-enumeration is the official website for self-enumeration is se.census.gov.in. Enumerators visiting households will verify the Self-Enumeration ID and integrate the data into the main database. The system will be available in 16 languages, including Bengali.

Describing it as a part of the Digital India initiative, the District Magistrate said the self-enumeration process would make census operations easier, simpler, and less time-consuming.

He further stated that field-level work for House Listing and Housing Census data collection will be carried out across West Tripura district, along with the rest of the state, from August 1 to August 30.

The three-day training camp, he said, was organised to familiarise enumerators and supervisors with their responsibilities before the commencement of the census exercise. Participants were given detailed training on data collection through mobile applications, operational procedures, and the user manual related to the census process.
