Flood impact: many families rendered homeless in Tripura, situation improving

Agartala, Aug 03: As various parts of Tripura received heavy showers since August 1 leading to floods, many families were rendered homeless and forced to take shelter in relief camps.

According to latest reports, a total of 26 relief camps were opened with 310 families in South Tripura and Gomati districts. As the floodwater started receding, most of the families returned home.

Official sources confirmed that 575 people from 132 affected families were in seven relief camps till the last information came in.

The heavy downpour caused damages to 120 houses-- one (fully), 37 (severely) and 82 partly-- in four districts: South Tripura, Gomati, Dhalai and Khowai districts.

The floodwater submerged agriculture fields at various locations, causing huge loss to the farmers. Besides, damages of power infrastructure and landslides in some places were also reported.

The Disaster Management teams along with NDRF and Apada Mitras immediately joined hands in rescue operations. The affected families were provided with necessary assistance from the administration.
