Flood situation in South Tripura, more rainfall predicted, CM monitoring situation

Incessant rainfall since Monday night has created a flood like situation across the South Tripura district and some other parts of Tripura.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala Centre has issued a Red Alert for South Tripura district in view of the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.

This alert indicates a very high likelihood of widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, flash floods, riverine flooding, and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The District Administration urged all residents to remain extremely vigilant. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly, with strong winds, continuous rain, and the risk of waterlogging in urban areas and inundation of low-lying regions.

While the district administration is prepared to deal with any eventuality, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is monitoring the situation.

According to CMO, the district administration has been directed to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of residents and provide immediate assistance to the affected people.

Meanwhile, the South Tripura District Administration has opened seven relief camps for sheltering affected people.

As many as 380 inmates from 116 families had taken shelter in those camps till the last information came in. The District Magistrate South Tripura has reviewed the situation late on Tuesday evening.

A message from the District Magistrate & Collector, South Tripura said: “Your safety is our highest priority. Please do not underestimate the danger. Act promptly—move to safer places without delay, listen to official advisories, and help those who may need assistance. Together, with caution and cooperation, we will get through this challenging situation safely.”
