Food poisoning in hostel, 15 schoolgirls fall ill in Tripura, CM takes swift action

Agartala, June 20: In an incident of food poisoning, 15 girl students of Bodhjung Girls School in Agartala were hospitalized after they had fallen ill during classes on Thursday.
All of a sudden, the 15 students developed the same symptoms like stomach ache and vomiting. The school authority immediately shifted them to GBP hospital.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, rushed to the hospital and interacted with the students. He also passed necessary instructions to the hospital authority for giving best care to the students. The Chief Minister then ordered a probe into the incident.
Later speaking to the media, Dr. Saha said, “Around 15 girl students came here after suddenly feeling uneasy and experiencing stomach aches during prayer at Bodhjung Girls School. They were rushed to the hospital. When I received the information, I directed the doctors to take all necessary measures. The incident is probably a case of food poisoning. I have directed the officials to submit a report to me on the issue. All the students are stable now, and there is nothing to worry about.”
In a swift action, the Warden and Care Taker of Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Residential Hostel, Indranagar, were terminated in connection with hospitalization of around 15 boarders.
Besides, the society which is running this hostel under the Tribal Welfare department has been served show-cause notice.
The 15 boarders, all studying in Bodhjungnagar Girls’ School, fell ill during their classes on Thursday.
Soon after the incident, as directed by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Addl. Secretary and Director to Tribal Welfare department- S. Prabhu inspected the hostel. According to the initial report, 10 inmates of Maharaja Bir Bikram ST Hostel, Agartala have been suffering from stomach pain and vomiting and have been admitted to GBP Hospital.
During the inspection, the official found that the hygiene was not being maintained in the hostel premises and the boarders were not being provided meals as per the Food Menu circulated by the Tribal Welfare department.
After the inspection, he in a letter addressed to the Secretary/ President of the society instructed for termination of the Hostel Warden and the Care Taker.
