
Udaipur, Sept 20: The mysterious death of a woman at Mirza in Tripura's Gomati district has triggered a political storm, with allegations of negligence and opposition protests intensifying the situation.
The woman- Anjali Sarkar was found dead with severe burn injuries in mysterious circumference on Friday morning.
Following preliminary investigation and multiple allegations, police arrested four persons on Saturday evening, including Anupam Majumder (Manna), nephew of a sitting MLA.
The three other arrested persons are- Kinkar Das, Diptanu Das and Akash Sarkar.
Confirming the arrests, Gomati Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar said further investigation is in progress.
In a parallel development, ASI Sanjoy Sarkar of Kakraban police station was suspended for dereliction of duty. Official records reveal that on September 18, Anjali and her husband Pankaj Sarkar had lodged a complaint against Manna and two others, accusing them of issuing threats at their shop in Mirza market.
Despite instructions from the Officer-in-Charge to verify and act, the ASI allegedly failed to take any steps.
The case has since taken a sharp political turn. Leaders from BJP, Congress, and CPM have reached the bereaved family to extend condolences.
Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and MLA Abhishek Debroy visited the residence on Saturday, while a Congress team met the DGP at the Gomati SP office demanding swift justice and the arrest of all culprits.
Speaking to reporters, the deceased’s husband claimed that Manna, Kinkar Das, Litan Das, Diptanu Das, and Akash Sarkar were directly involved in his wife’s killing.
