Frequent power cuts affecting daily life in Tripura

Agartala, Mar 20: With the onset of the rainy season, large parts of Agartala and several other parts of Tripura have started witnessing frequent and unscheduled power outages, severely affecting daily life and work routines.

Over the past couple of days, electricity supply has remained highly inconsistent, with multiple outages reported across different localities.

In several instances, power cuts have lasted for hours, often without any prior notice, leaving residents struggling to manage household and professional responsibilities.

Locals have expressed concern over the unpredictability of the situation, stating that the absence of advance communication has made it nearly impossible to plan daily schedules. From disrupted study routines for students to challenges in running small businesses, the impact has been widespread.

The erratic power supply has also taken a toll on office functioning. Employees in both government and private sectors reported repeated work interruptions due to sudden outages, leading to internet failures and system shutdowns.

In many offices, ongoing tasks were abruptly halted, causing delays in public service delivery and inconveniencing visitors who had come for essential work.

Adding to the growing dissatisfaction is the alleged lack of response from the customer support services of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited. Residents claimed that calls to helplines often go unanswered, further compounding their frustration amid the ongoing disruptions.

As the rainy season progresses, citizens are urging authorities to take immediate steps to stabilise power supply and improve communication to prevent further inconvenience.

A representative of TSECL in a WhatsApp message said, due to severe thunderstorm conditions today, power supply has been disrupted in various areas across Tripura.

"As a result, we are currently experiencing a significantly high volume of calls from consumers across different ESDs and regions of the state. Because of this heavy call traffic, some consumers may face difficulty in connecting through the 1912 helpline at this time."

He requested to register complaints through the Bidyut Bandhu App or the TSECL website.

"We are attending to all complaints with equal priority, regardless of the mode of registration. The medium through which the complaint is registered does not matter," the TSECL representative noted.
